Naples, Italy. It’s a bit seedy but charming as well. It’s also in the perfect location for some day trips!
Day trip #1: Capri
The first day trip we took was to the island of Capri, home of the Blue Grotto. From Naples you can take a ferry out to the island. We took the slow boat, because it is much cheaper, it’s about an hour and thirty minute ride.
Capri is just as beautiful as the photos on pinterest make it out to be! There are beautiful homes on the sides of clifs and colorful flowers everywhere. There are also lemon trees!🍋
One of the most popular things to do when in Capri is to take a boat tour and go through the mystical Blue Grotto. While we were not able to see the Blue Grotto because there were too many other boats waiting, the boat tour itself was still wonderful! It took us around the island and by some small caves.
There are tons of resturants and stores and they are all SO BEAUTIFUL!
Finally, hit the beach! The water is amazing, in both color and temperature. The beach is a rocky beach as opposed to a sandy one but if you spend all your time in the water that won’t be an issue;)
Grab some gelatto🍦 and take the same ferry home at the end of the day!
Day trip #2: Ruins of Pompeii
Pompeii was my favorite of the two days trips. As a future history teacher, I was completely in L-O-V-E LOVE!!
On the first Sunday of the month Pompeii is free. That’s when we went and the crowds were not bad at all! We took at train to and from Pompeii for only €5.20, it was a cheap and amazing day!
Pompeii is gorgeous, especially with Mt. Vesuvius looming in the background. It’s also HUGE! Way bigger than I expected.
There are three options for Pompeii, do a guided tour, do a self guided audio guide or wander on your own. In the interest of budget travel, we opted for the latter.
It’s now on my bucketlist to go back and take a guided tour but I loved just wandering! There is so much to see and so many little nooks and crannies to explore. You could easily spend all day there!
When you’re done exploring, hop into town for lunch or dinner. There are a lot of cute places. Then take the same train home.
Naples was the perfect place to stay for these fun day trips! If you get the chance, I’d highly reccomend visiting one or both of these beautiful places!
